Having lived in Tokyo for 2 1/2 years, we were intrigued, yet skeptical in seeing a new Japanese sushi restaurant open in the Farmington Valley. But after 2 visits now to Maeda Sushi, we can honestly say that it’s like a piece of Tokyo has come to Simsbury. The sushi, service and overall attention to detail reminds us, like no other restaurant in the area, of our time in Japan. We look forward to many more visits to Maeda-san’s restaurant. If you like sushi, you’ll love it here.

I am a perfectonist and Maeda-san’s Sushi was beyond my expectation. They were delicately exquisite and delicious and had the subtle hidden tastes. I don’t know how to explain it. Eating is believing. Thank you
    for coming to Connecticut.

  2. BRob Says:

The best sushi I have ever tasted.
Sea urchin was so sweet and of course the fatty tuna was just great. Even ginger and wasabi were different. Thank you!

  3. Manager Says:

Thank you Beamer X and BRob. We will be looking forward to see you again.

  4. Marcin Says:

Thank you very much for a great meal.
I have had sushi at Koji, Feng, Min ghung, Toshi, Ginza, Koo, and none of these places even come close to Maeda. The fish is very fresh, rice is excellent, and ginger is awesome. Everything works perfectly. I recommend eel.

  5. Manager Says:

Thank you, Marcin. Sushi is our speciality, and rice is a very important component. So I am very glad that you enjoyed it. If you liked our eel, please try our sea eel on the next visit. It will be even better. Thank you very much.

I was so excited after reading the review on the Courant…I tried shumai, the custard, and omakase chirashi, and they were all fantastic. Good sake, too. I can’t wait to go again!

  7. M. Naughton Says:

Everything was perfect. The Sashimi Salad special was a great stimulus for my appetite. I had the omakase sushi and it’s to die for! I honestly have never had better sushi. Thank you.

  8. Steve Says:

I recently stopped in for lunch and was utterly impressed with the sushi at Maeda, it was the best I’d ever had. The service was also exceptional. One thing I noticed was a young sushi chef working behind the counter along with Mr. Maeda. I’m not sure what his name was but I thought he did an excellent job and I think that he is a rising star in the industry and will one day be famous.

  9. Mary Says:

We had the pleasure of dining at your restaurant tonight. The service was impeccable, and the food was perfect, the tempura was top notch too. It was better than we anticipated. We wish you the best of luck and many wonderful years in the Farmington Valley!

  10. Ruairi Says:

    コネチカット州の中で、前田さんのお寿司は一番おいしいと思いますよ!

  11. Mary Says:

My boyfriend and I came to your restaurant today, and I would just like to thank you for the experience. We have been to so many sushi restaurants in Connecticut, but most are extremely Americanized. It was great to finally try traditional Japanese sushi! The Chirashi was great, and the salmon roe had such a nice flavor. Thanks, I’m sure we will be back! We hope you’re enjoying Connecticut so far.

  12. Manager Says:

Thank you so much for your comments and welcoming Maeda to Connecticut. Yes, his sushi is truly authentic, which is totally new around this area. Please come see us whenever you have a craving for real sushi, sushi as we the Japanese have known it.

  13. Baz Says:

Having moved to Connecticut from Manhattan in 2002, I’ve tried just about every sushi restaurant in the state and soon realized “true” Japanese cuisine was not available here. And so, I would drive into New York every two weeks just for sushi. This week I discovered Maeda in Simsbury. What a surprise, it’s the real deal! Now, I no longer have to drive 230 miles roundtrip for a wonderful meal. Arigato gozaimasu Maeda-san.

  14. Atsuko Balon Says:

When we went to outdoor concert at Norfolk
Chambermusic festival to hear Tokyo string quartet . Mr Maeda made most delicious Sushi Bentou for us to eat at ground , Futomaki was so good and Tempura was very tasty . We enjoyed good music and great masters food , Thank you Mr Maeda .
You are one of the Sushi maestro !!!

  15. A Music Lover Says:

I am an organizer of Norfolk Music Festival
trip. Maeda-san’s dinner box was a big hit.
One says that she has never had a delicious,
    authentic Japanese cuisine like Maeda-san’s
for 17 years. A perfect weather, perfect music and perfect dinner at the picnic table! Thank you for preparing a special dinner box for us.

  16. Manager Says:

To Ms. Balon and A Music Lover,
Thank you so much for your comment. We are very glad to learn that the concert was great and that you enjoyed Chef’s bento box. Thank you, and see you soon.

    To Baz,
Thank you very much for your comment. We were all encouraged after talking to you and by your comment that truly authentic sushi can be understood and be appreciated here. Thank you very much.

  17. M & J Says:

Chef Maeda-san’s restaurant offers what can only be described as truly big city sushi in small town Simsbury….what a treat! My husband and I have traveled many places, and being big sushi fans, this is and always will be a favorite. If you are really up for a dining experience, try the omakase course served tachi style – it is superb! Everyone was so helpful in accommodating to our varying tastes and simply put, this is unlike any other food and drink pairing we’ve ever been to. Needless to say, we’ll be back frequently as this caliber of
sushi and service is outstanding. Thank you! Arigato gozaimasu!

  18. Manager Says:

Thank you M&J. It is our pleasure to serve you, always. We will continue working hard to offer the most authentic sushi, and look foward to see you soon. arigatou gozaimasu

  19. Cheryl from Southwick, MA Says:

Ate at Maeda last night. Could not have been happier. The Uni (Sea Urchin) was amazing. The scallop melted in my mouth. I was very impressed. Service was great. A little pricier than other area sushi restaurants, but WORTH EVERY PENNY!!!! The Miso soup was like no other I had ever had, I had the Yellowtail Miso, at other restauants I never finish the soup, at Maeda I could have eaten another bowl, it was that good! Also had jellyfish for the first time and loved it. I will be going back for SURE. Thank you for a great meal!

  20. Manager Says:

Dear Cheryl, thank you so much for your comment! We were happy to serve you, and for our chefs, it’s great to have customers like you who are open to trying new things, since we have a lot of them to offer. So again, thank you, and we hope to see you soon.

  21. Richard Young Says:

Maeda Sushi has super fresh ingredients and the sushi is balanced, delicate, and beautifully presented. The sashimi salad, and various appetizers are delicious with attention to texture, flavor, and temperature.
The staff is friendly and capable. Maeda-san is truly a master, bringing an authentic taste of Tokyo to Connecticut. The hamachi miso soup, the delicately marinated ikura, and various fish were absolutely superb! Hope to try the chirashi next time and the stewed abalone with some sake.
Thank you, Master Chef Maeda-san and manager Taki-san!
    We’ll be back soon!
    ****Highly recommended.****

  22. Manager Says:

Thank you so much, Mr. Young. It was such a pleasure to meet you and Mrs. Young. We are so thankful that you took the time to search us out, and then driving all the way from New York. Now that Chef Maeda knows you (that you’re very open to new flavors), he will be able to serve you more exotic fish and different preparations. We are looking forward to be serving you again, soon.

  23. Mikiko & Orville Says:

We had a wonderful visit and really enjoyed the Japanese cuisine. The sushi is prepared and served with perfection. We will be back soon and often.

    1. Manager Says:

      Dear Mikiko & Orville,
Thank you for visiting us and we are very glad you enjoyed.
We have started to offer some our Chef’s own dressing and even some sashimi quality fish to go in our new Cafe section of the restaurant. Please take a look. We love to hear back from you for any questions and suggestions. Thank you so much!

  24. Christopher and Leann Eddy Says:

Our 1st Maeda Sushi experience was excellent and inspiring — I now want to tell everyone I know to enjoy and support this local jewel, and am sorry I did not come sooner and have now lost a year that I could have been eating at Maeda!

I consider Sushi to be my favorite food, but I have never tasted and experienced anything on the same high level as Maeda. My meal was easily twice as good as the best I’ve ever had previously.

The traditional approach, informed service, and meticulous attention to detail in the craft of the food is unparalleled in my experience.

Supreme balance is embodied in Maeda’s food. A good example was the Miso soup. A throwaway course in many american Sushi restaurant’s, the Miso soup at Maeda was elevated to a level that is almost sublime — it was perfect. The wasabi is real, the pickled ginger is homemade, and these simple touches speak a great deal about Maeda’s intention. If this much care is applied to these simple things, one can then imagine how truly amazing the fish and food must be.

My wife, who normally does not like raw fish, was even impressed and noticed the difference.

I wish Maeda great success in Simsbury, CT and look forward to dining there for many years to come!

    1. Manager Says:

      Dear Mr & Mrs Eddy,
Thank you so much for your kind comment.
It was a pleasure to serve you, and hopefully, we get to do so again…
and without your having to drive so far away.

  25. Greg Says:

Hands down THE BEST and the most authentic Sushi experience in Connecticut! My only regret is I wish I had discovered Maeda sooner!
    Will be back definitely!

The little shop at the restaurant front is a nice touch too! I bought some in house salad dressing and Mitarashi dango 🙂

    1. Manager Says:

      Dear Greg,
Thank you so much for your comment – authenticity is something we care deeply. We are so glad that you enjoyed the dinner, and thank you for shopping! The store side of the business is still somewhat new to us and we are working to improve, so if you have any requests or suggestions, please tell us. Thank you very much and we look forward to serve you again.

  26. Shirley Says:

That was a wonderful dinner on May 21. It’s been a long time since I’ve eaten Osaka style sushi, what a novel start to an exquisite meal full of surprises to tempt the palate, but not overpower the senses.

    1. Manager Says:

      Dear Shirley,
Thank you so much for your comment. In Japanese they are simply called oshi-zushi (pressed sushi), although there are several different variations (different names, too). We are very glad you enjoyed the dinner. It is always a pleasure to serve you. Thank you!
